Silk Road Grotto

Location:  China, Shanxi Province, Yungang Grottoes

Back in the 1980’s tourists were still allowed to enter the intricately carved and painted Buddhist Grotto caves of the Silk Road.  I found this angle of the Buddha, with his giant legs wrapped in sandstone robes to be both inspiring and artistically intriguing. This painting received the CreativeJuices Contest Prize for Visual Art in Conceptions Southwest Magazine in 2008.
